Getting to know you

I really have nothing to say.

I'm in a new season, where I'm taking in words instead of giving out. So I'm listening instead of talking. Which means that I would love to listen to you and hear what you have to say.

Let's imagine that we sit together at my kitchen table, sharing coffee, sharing thoughts, sharing ourselves.

For starters, I'll ask you this: when you were 10, where did you live? And what did you want to be when you grew up? Is that what you are now?

When I was 10, I lived in Colombia, just outside the small river port of Barranco Minas, on the Guaviare River in heart of the rain forest. It's interesting to see that area now with Google Earth. The town has grown considerably (thanks to drug trafficking, among other things.) But when we were there, in the late 70's to early 80's, life was simpler and more peaceful.

I wanted to become a teacher when I grew up. I'm not a teacher now, but I did homeschool my kids for a few years. One of my greatest achievements in life has been teaching my son and daughter to read. I can still remember that "aha" moment for each of them when they realized that those letters and sounds could be put together to make words. It was pure magic!

Now it's your turn. And while you're at it, if you have any questions for me, please feel free to ask.

I'm off to get another cup of coffee.

When I was ten...hmmmm, Sadly, we moved so much that I really don't remember. I do know that we were in Ohio though.

I do have a question for you...Maybe it's too personal, if so I am sorry and please do not feel obligated to answer, but it is a question I wondered the first time I read through you blog page.

Why has your life not turned out the way you had hoped it would? And, do you still have hope for the future?

I guess that's two questions...LOL
Have a great weekend!

A very long time ago, when I was ten, my parents and I had just moved from Apopka (Near Rock Springs Run State Preserve) to 5 acres just outside of DeLand, I had to switch schools mid-year and I always hated being the new kid in school, which I frequently was thanks to my Air Force dad.

Back then, what I wanted to be when I grew up was an archeologist (that was waaaaaaayyyy before any Indiana Jones movies came out)!

I'm trained as a nurse but I am currently a combination of stay at home wife/administrative assistant that works from home.

See you on Wednesday!
=)

I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Life just happened.
I think we want to grow to love and be loved. The rest is extra.

When I was ten, well, we moved a lot that year. I began the year celebrating my birthday in Corpus Christi right after coming out of Mexico. Then we lived in a ranch hand cabin in the mountains of California, then moved to Northern British Columbia and lived on a farm milking goats and weeding gardens. Before I turned 11, we moved to Oregon and lived in the attic of a church for awhile in a place that was so cold the toilets froze.

What I wanted to be then? I think I wanted to be a vet when I was ten. Why? Because I liked the idea of caring and healing, but did not like people and did not want to deal with them at all. I loved animals and wanted to grow up and be a vet. I didn't become a vet, but became a nurse. Why? Because later on when I saw people suffering, I knew I couldn't heal animals and ignore people, so I went into nursing. Now I work not in nursing, but still in trying to heal - but with words, not medicine.

Okay, I have been wanting to comment all week and have been super busy. :( You know me, don't like to be too busy...okay, fine, call me lazy! lol!

Well, when I was 10 we were in Colombia and that's when my family joined the Nukak team and moved out to the Lake! Big year for my sisters and I because we moved into the dorm...not a first for my sisters, but a first for me. I can't remember that being too hard for me, but it was for Kathy and Chrissy. I think Teresa was already in high school at that point and was homeschooling...but I digress.

I can't remember what I wanted to be at that particular time, but I do remember thinking a lot about becoming a vet because I loved animals so much. I always said I'd hate to be a teacher and yet look, that's what my degree is...although I have yet to actually teach in a classroom. Oh well. I have homeschooled, so I guess that counts, eh? :)

Right now I'm a wife, mom, missionary...and very happy being able to be home with my kids.

Hi Angela, sorry it's taken me so long to come back and comment!

The first half of my tenth year was spent in Senegal where my parents were missionaries. That summer we moved back to upstate new york where my dad is from. That was a rough move. I hated the states and wanted to go back to Africa with all my heart. But i see now how the Lord was in it all and I thank Him for His hand in our lives.
